With every small refinement I feel that I’m coming nearer to where I would like to arrive, and when I finally get there I know it was the rewriting, not the writing, that won the game.
— William Zinsser, On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction

Not for the faint of heart. This is where significant revisions happen—and it’s my most popular service.

You may feel that your documents are all over the place and you’re struggling with how to put them into some kind of order. Or, your manuscript is all in one place, but you still feel it needs some order. You may be at the point where you just don’t know what to do with it anymore and are looking for someone else help you take the wheel.

You’ll have your final draft ready. I might be the first person to spend so much time with your masterpiece. As part of the developmental editing process, we’ll rearrange sentences, paragraphs, or even chapters. I will offer thoughtful suggestions on where to delete, rewrite, or add content. I’ll also identify inconsistencies and issues with flow, transitions, voice, plot, structure, dialogue, and character development.

We’ll have up to two hours of Skype or e-mail communication to go over your manuscript. You will receive your document with an editorial letter with a developmental plan on how to improve your manuscript and an extensive number of Word comments.

This service does not include full copyediting or proofreading. If you like, I can copyedit your piece after we finish the developmental service. Generally, I do not proofread pieces I have already developmentally reviewed and copy edited.
